A Brief Biodata of Mohd Khair Mohd Yasin ( Khayas )
Mohd Khair Mohd Yasin or Khayas as he is better known, was a member of the trio
“RAUSYANFIKIR” which was made up of the late Esham Jamil, Art Fazil and Mohd
Khair himself. In 1992 and 1993, they recorded two albums,conceptually both folk
and pop albums. All the songs, written by the members, spoke of contemporary
social and cultural issues. After recording these two albums, Khayas continued
writing and composing music for both Singaporean and Malaysian musicians/artistes. In 1998, he recorded and launched his own album, of which 10 songs were considered the best he has ever written in his whole writing career. The album also introduces Ethnic Pop or Dondang, a rhythm mixture of Nusantara rhythm and reggae funk. Khayas hopes to promote Dondang as a new music genre that has emerged from his more than 20 years of writing and composing.
